Power Up Withonline safety
The whole world is at your fingertips so let’s learn to be safe and enjoy!
Kids want to explore cyberspace for fun, for school and to connect with friends. We just need to make sure that they know the rules of the road so they can be safe, smart and kind when connecting using tech. I will discuss what makes a strong password, how to know what games are appropriate for them and what to do if someone they don't know tries to make a connection online. The lessons are fun and interactive.
Be A Smart User Of Smart Technology
Learn safe, savvy and ethical online skills to become a good digital citizen.
In order for kids and teens to fully benefit from the wealth of advantages tech can provide, they all must master the fundamentals of responsible use of technology; for fun, entertainment, education, interaction and connection. In this workshop designed for specifically for teens, we will discuss what it means to be a good digital citizen; how to develop a positive online reputation, how to employ the safety and privacy settings available; maintaining a healthy tech diet; avoiding online dangers; tech etiquette; and ways to capitalize on the opportunities tech provides.
Smart Social Media For Future Success
Use social media to tell your story, get the right attention and network with influencers.
Our Social Media Strategies workshop builds on the foundations set in the Smart Users of Smart Tech talks, but the focus is on ways to use social media strategically towards success and well-being. By now you know how to use digital technologies and social media to connect with friends and get engagement from your online posts. As you start to prepare for life after high school, you need to learn how to apply those skills to network with people beyond your peer group - college administrators, hiring managers, and business leaders. Attendees will learn to network using social networks and attract the right kind of attention online from potential colleges and employers. We will explore ways to employ Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or a Blog to tell your story and have it seen by the right audience.
Educating Tech Users
Learn how to encourage students to use technology in meaningful, creative and positive ways
Educators are having to compete with tech distractions and digital drama while trying to educate our kids. Not only are the methods and media rapidly changing, but they are dealing with parents who have divergent points of view on how (or whether) to incorporate technology in their classroom. While some parents want their kids well versed in using new technologies that they will surely need in the real world, other parents are concerned with too much screen time. We will talk about the benefits and drawbacks to using technology as a tool in the classroom, how to handle online drama happening in and outside of school, and incorporating social media as a means to foster dialog and standards for online discussion. I'll provide key tips and actionable advice to help educators model good digital citizenship. You will get step-by-step instruction on privacy and safety settings across popular mobile devices, apps, browsers and search engines. I will offer advice and strategies on encouraging healthy tech habits and fostering students to use technology in meaningful, creative and positive ways.
